Back to School with Disney Digital Books: Review & Giveaway- CLOSED

If you have a small child that is still learning to read or a child who is having difficulty learning to read you should consider becoming a subscriber of DisneyDigitalBooks.com. It's perfect for back to school because it can strengthen your child's reading level and prepare your child for their up coming school year. They can be reading at a higher level then the rest of their classmates if they practice reading on DisneyDigitalBooks.com before school starts!

Since I'm a huge Disney fanatic, I had the privilege of winning a 3 month subscription to DisneyDigitalBooks.com a few weeks ago and last week I had an opportunity to sit down a few times to use it and wanted to share with you my thoughts on it and what I found out about it. I was very impressed with it. I took this picture below of the 3 month subscription box contents right before I scratched off the pass code card and registered so you can see what comes inside a 3 month subscription box.

Disney Digital Books is an online reading experience provided by Disney Worldwide Publishing. It's a subscription based website that features access to over 600 (and growing!)new and classic Disney books (Like The Little Mermaid my favorite). It has 5 reading levels for kids of all ages. It also has amazing graphics and an interface that gives a realistic a reading experience. Below is an image of one of the Toy Story books available on the site.

Disney Digital Books are set up in 3 formats:

* "Look and Listen"(shown above with the Toy Story Book) for the early or struggling readers to watch the book online as a narrator guides the reader with highlighted words and automatic turning pages.

* Self-Guided: Using the highlight-wand to click and hear the word aloud, your child can read at his/her own pace, go back to a word and hear it again and even click on a Dictionary icon to learn the meaning.

* Story Builder: Readers are given templates of their favorite stories where they can modify the text of the book by choosing words from a bank. They can move characters around like digital color forms and then print the story when they're finished.

It also features:

* Fun features like the Story-Builder activity

* Trivia challenges and Look and Listen books

* Separate accounts for up to 3 children

* A parent account for reviewing child activity and posting encouraging notes

* You can access Disney Digital Books from any computer or Internet book reader or with an Ipad or with anything with Internet connection!

* You can search for books based on reading level

* Your kids can connect with their other friends who also have a subscription on the site

* Personal information used for registration of parents and kids is self-contained on the site and does not leak onto the Web.

Disney Digital Books is a great tool for kids to use to develop, strengthen, and improve their reading skills, but it's not meant to replace that experience of heading to the library to get your child their first library card!

But then again, it is the year 2010 people! Let's face the reality that the children of today are a digital generation of kids! They are more likely to be on the computer or playing a video game these days, so why not bring the books to a format that grabs their attention. I think this is a very smart thing for Disney to do. They are looking to the future.

I recommend Disney Digital Books to all parents with a kid going back to school. I also highly recommend it for parents that may have a struggling reader at home or to teachers going back to teach at schools. If your school has a computer lab you can use it as a teaching aide!

Just think of all the money you will save on tutors and CD-Roms just by giving your son or daughter this fun and easy way to get some extra reading practice.
I wish this was around when I was a kid, it would have helped me so much. But parents again please understand that this is NOT replacement for reading real books, it should just act as a fun way practice reading.

Parents you may also want to try connecting your laptop to your flat screen TV and let your kids or the family read together! It makes reading feel like a fun family activity as opposed to something that feels like work.

You can TRY it for free for a week or try it for longer to really see results by purchasing a 3 Month Subscription pass code at various retail locations like an Apple store for 24.99 or for various prices on an online store like my favorite Amazon.com. Or you can subscribe directly at DisneyDigitalBooks.com for $8.95 a month or for $79.95 for a year.
