Be Healthy! 10 Ways to Make Your favorite foods healthier!

Hey all! Since Christmas I have been on a battle to lose the extra pounds I gained over the holidays.

We'll me and my "not hubby" have been battling how to lose the extra pounds. We are trying to work out more and change our diets. We even try going to the gym together to be each others coaches to encourage each other to keep going. We also go on family hiking trips and jog together sometimes. Our teen is lucky as he can eat whatever he wants and still remains a stick! I digress...

One thing that has been helping tremendously in shedding the pounds is learning how to make our favorite usually fatty comfort foods healthier!

We've learned what to cut out of our diet and what to cut back on. Here are 10 tips on how to make your foods and meals healthier!

1. So I love to bake! Like I'm addicted to bake goods! That's my downfall. I've learned that when a baking recipe calls for 1/4 or 1/2 of the butter or oil I can replace it with unsweetened applesauce. Keep in mind that applesauce is a better replacement for oil than it is for butter.

2. We've cut back on SUGAR! I love anything with sugar since I have a sweet tooth. Try to cut your sugar intake. Sugar packs on the calories quickly. One tablespoon of sugar equals 48 calories. So if you have a recipe that calls for One tablespoon of sugar try using One tablespoon of confectioners' sugar instead of regular sugar. One tablespoon of confectioners' sugar only equals 29 calories.

3. Being a native New Yorker I love to make my New York style cheesecake. When you're making yummy Cheese Cakes use reduced-fat cream cheese instead of regular. Same great taste half the calories.

4. I love chicken and hamburgers. We over ate when we made these. So we invested in a food scale so that we can weigh our meats to get a feel for what typical serving sizes are. I actually have one from Weight Watchers that works great! You should check out the great scales they have to offer at www.weightwatchers.com

5. Cut back on FAT! Even though we love fat because it has the most flavor on meats, give up the fat and skinned chicken and use the leanest cuts of meat: skinless poultry, white meat poultry, or beef with "loin" or "round" in the name.

6. Cut back the SALT! Salt is deadly. And we tend to love it in our family. We used to put salt on our fries, popcorn, everything! We've been very adamant to watch how many high-sodium foods we're eating including anything canned, packaged mixes, tortillas, breads, olives, cheese, salsa and seasoning mixes.

7. When we have our Mexican burrito dinner night we now use 8 or 6 inch flour tortillas instead of 10 inch tortillas. The 10 inch tortillas can have 213 calories before any fillings are even added.

8. The obvious, when reaching for any snack try to reach for more Fruits and Veggies!
9. When cooking or making our own salad dressings we use healthier oils like extra virgin olive oil in place of our typical oils we usually used.

10. And last but not least Don't fry your foods! I love fried chicken, but try baking or grilling your chicken instead of packing on the calories by frying them! I think breaded baked chicken tastes just as good as fried chicken!

And a bonus tip:

We love to eat Weight Watchers Smart Ones when we're on the go! Weight Watchers Smart Ones offers a variety of healthier meal options for all 3 meals of the day and also offers desserts and snacks! You can snag a coupon for $1 off the purchase of any 5 Weight Watchers Smart Ones products here!

By doing these tips I have shared with you we have changed our eating habits and how we cook our favorite foods. We have become more healthier and have lost some weight in the process.

The battle still continues to lose weight, since it get's harder to do when you get older, But we know we are on the right track! I hope these tips will do the same for you and your family! Or at the very least help you cook your favorite foods healthier.

Thanks for letting me share these tips with you and thank you for following my blog!

Ten tips for a cleaner and greener home!

Hey all, so getting your family to go Green and become more Eco-friendly can be battle of epic proportions. But I am happy to report that my family is slowly but surely becoming more and more aware of the environment and what a big impact one person can make by becoming more eco-friendly.

We've traded in some of our old household cleaners and have changed the way we eat and dispose and use waste. We are trying to cut our carbon foot print as a family and I'd like to share some tips on how you and your family can try to do the same.

I like that we do it as a family. It brings us closer together and makes us act as a team working together for a common goal. And we are going to reach out goal of being a complete green household!

Here are 10 tips that help keep my home cleaner and greener. I'm sure they will help you too!

1. Use the Fantastic Four cleaners -- vinegar, salt, lemon juice, and baking soda -- they can make your household tasks less complicated and easier on you and the environment. You can use them to clean counter tops, your microwaves, bathroom sinks, refrigerators, anything. You can use each of these as a replacement for your chemical cleaners.

2. To clean the windows in your home use 4 tablespoons lemon juice mixed with a half gallon of water. Other effective cleaners for glass and mirrors are rubbing alcohol and witch hazel. Forget the windex! Use these instead.

3. Wipe windows clean with newspapers.  You'll be reusing newspapers and saving on paper towels or try using a clean, lint-free rag instead, perhaps an old cotton T-shirt or cloth diaper.

4. Grow your own fruit and vegetables or herbs. Not only are they be pesticide free but they can be organic as well. You'll be eating much healthier and saving money!

If you don't have a yard, you can always get cheap pots or a herb garden kit to pot your herbs and veggies. Like in this pic below!

5. Cut down on your aluminum and plastic baggie use and get a product like Wrap N Mat a reusable lunch wrapper that you can wrap your sandwiches or cold lunches in!

6. Replace your light bulbs with energy saving bulbs. They help cut down our electricity costs and cut back on the amount of light bulbs you have to change in a year.

7.  Help keep your floors clean by taking off shoes before you come into your homes. It helps save time, money, and cuts back on the carpet and floor cleaners that you use that may be harsh to the environment. You'll also find you have to clean your floor less. I make everyone take their shoes off before they come into the house. It also decreases the spread of germs! Yuck.

8.  Make recycling fun! Get your blue, red, and green bins with the proper recycling logos and show your kids how to recycle.
Give them and prize every time they get it right and they will continue to do it right! Encourage art products with a recycling theme, using materials that would have otherwise been thrown away, bottle tops, cereal boxes, toilet rolls tubes can all be used in art and craft projects. Make progress charts to record just how much stuff you are managing to recycle each month. Make recycling fun and it will never become a chore! If Sesame Street can make recycling fun so can you! And your house will be a lot greener too!

9. Fix your leaky faucets and make sure they don't drip. You can really conserve water that way. You can save gallons of water if your faucet doesn't leak!

10. And last but not least: Cut back on how much trash and recyclables you use. For example. Stop buying bottled water! Get a water filter for your faucet or buy a PUR water filter container to filter your water and then get refillable water bottles for your whole family like the SIGG water bottles. They come in various colors and in character prints like Hello Kitty that your whole family will love. You save money and the environment by not using so many plastic bottles when you constantly buy bottled water.

Those are the main tips that my family has done as an attempt to become a green family. I hope they help you and yours do the same.

Thanks for allowing me to share this will you and thank you for following my blog!

To Do List in Pictures

I've been busy. We're unpacking boxes and organizing. We still have lots and lots of regular house stuff to put away. And then there are THE TOYS. Oh my dear Lord.

The sheer amount of toys in this little apartment is kind of amazing. Awe inspiring, really. James had to make me promise not to bring in anymore boxes of toys (there are still 6 or 7 humongous boxes) from their temporary storage space in the garage until we've figured out what to do with the 15 tons of toys that are already in here. It's so cute, though. As we open each toy box, it's like Peyton and Ella are discovering their old toys all over again. Watching them play with their toys just makes me happy.

But our house is a disaster. Boxes everywhere. Stuff everywhere. Toys everywhere.

So yesterday I made my To Do List in pictures. And let me tell you, looking over the before and after pictures makes me feel really accomplished. I totally recommend it. Anyway...

Under the temporary work table in the master bedroom:

Done!

Dresser:

Done! (Except somehow Barbie's puppies' dog bones ended up there. They are so very little. Every time I see all 4 bones at once I do a little jig because I can't believe we haven't lost any yet. And Ella got them like 6 months ago. I know! It's amazing. It might be a tiny accomplishment, but an it's an important one - just ask Ella. She freakin' LOVES those bones.)

Master bedroom by the dresser:

Okay, that spot looks pretty much the same. But I did stack up a bunch of magazines that were underneath the chair. I have a lot of magazine reading to do. I kind of love this pile.

Dining room area:

Done! I love this little desk. Peyton and Ella have used it for years. It is the well-worn and well-loved little desk that could.

Dining room table:

Done! See all the scribble marks? This table is so old that when my kids scribble on it by accident it doesn't bother me. I think of it like seasoning a cast iron pan. They're kid-seasoning our table. When we get a new one, though, watch out! Rules will be made and followed! No seasoning!

There are coupons somewhere in this pile of newspapers:

Done! Cut and organized! Let the savings begin!

My sweet kids. Today they made the kinds of little messes that I love.

Ella created some cards for her Daddy:

Peyton created a battlefield on my computer and file cabinet:

That's better. Now my world is a little more tidy and a little more organized and a lot more like home.

The Fabulous FEBREZE Home and Sport Collection- REVIEW

Hey all!  I just wanted to share with you how much I love Febreze! How many of you feel the same way? I'm sure there are a lot of you!

I have to say that not only am I the Queen of Swag I am the Queen of Febreze! As you can tell by my apron in the picture below!

I have a large variety of Febreze products ranging from the Original fabric freshener to the Febreze Sports Collection with "Sweat Tech" technology to the fabulous Febreze "Home" collection.

The Febreze sport spray is great to spray on clothes or furniture in these hot summer months to prevent any odors from invading your home.

If you have a house full of males like I do then it's definitely a must to have. Men and boys like to get dirty and be active a lot, and it's nice to have something to combat the odors left behind on their clothes and shoes from all that activity. It keeps everything smelling great with it’s sweat tech fighter power.

The Sport's collection smells great and kills orders quickly! It comes in a collection of products ranging from laundry detergent to room or locker spray. I love them all and have used them all.

I highly recommend this collection if you have children or spouses who play a lot of sports! Run and get some Febreze Sport! It's a life saver for after a game or the drive home from the game. Smelly sports socks are the worst!

I also deeply love the Febreze Home Collection.  I truly love the smells and styles the home collection comes in.

The home collection has the nicest scented reed diffuser that lasts up to 60 days of continuous freshness and it comes in a kit with the scented diffuser oil and 10 reads and a fabulous glass bottle with wooden top to hold the reeds in place.

It goes great with any decor. My scent of choice is the pomegranate mango scent for the home collection, but there is a variety of scents you can choose from. I also have the room spray in pomegranate mango and finally the flameless luminary.

The Flameless Luminary is almost like an electronic scented candle.

The kit for the luminary comes with a reusable lamp base, 2 scented shades (I have my favorite pomergrante mango), and with two AA batteries! Which I think is awesome because products rarely come with batteries these days! It comes in a variety of amazing scents that will keep your home smelling lovely for months. You just buy the refills for the scented shades after you’ve bought this kit to keep your place smelling fresh! I really do love these products because they look great, are very well made, and they smell amazing!

If you decide to run out and get your own fabulous Febreze Home Collection products you can now receive a $10 rewards card when you purchase $20 of your favorite Home Collection products.

For more info on how to sign up click this link:

Mimobot: The force is strong with Mimoco! - Review

Hey all! So how many of you have heard of Mimobots?

They are the most adorable designer USB flash drives on the market! Mimobot is the best place to get designer flash drives! Mimobot carries many different licensed flash drives such as: Sanrio Hello Kitty, (My Favorite) Star Wars, Halo, and a variety of other characters. All of their designs are so adorable! They are well designed and the flash drives are something that you can show off to your friends. I know I do every chance I get!

I have of course the Star Wars Darth Vader 4gb Mimobot and the rare only 1,000 made Lobot in 2gb and I love them both so much! You don't even know!

I was lucky to get the Darth Vader with the classic Anakin face! Only 1 in every 6 Darth Vader flash drive comes with the original Anakin!

This Vader USB is one of the best memory drives I have ever gotten.  It comes with the following specs:

    •    Preloaded digital Mimory
    •    2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB capacities
    •    Hi-speed USB 2.0
    •    Mac/PC compatible
    •    2.5" tall by 1" wide
    •    One-year limited warranty

The Lobot has the same specs and is amazing as well. I placed them in front of the Star Wars folders I got my teen for back to school. We truly are a Star Wars family!

I also had the privilege of going to San Diego Comic Con this year and meeting some of the nice folks at the Mimobot Booth. Alec at the booth was very nice to spend some time listening to me rave about my Darth Vader Mimobot.

That booth was a Mimobot Paradise! I absolutely loved it! Oh I loved Comic Con so much! I digress...

While at Comic Con, I was one of the first to get the Lobot Mimobot dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.

If you don't know who Lobot is from Star Wars, Lobot was the chief administrative aide to Baron Administrator Lando Calrissian on Cloud City, over the planet Bespin. His brain was connected to the city's central computer, allowing him to communicate directly with the city's computer network. Now you can connect Lobot MIMOBOT’s brain to your computer via USB.  I know very geeky lady here.

Mimobot was offering a few left over Lobots on their website located here: http://www.mimoco.com Hurry and get one quickly before they are all gone!

While you're on the Mimobot site check out the amazing little movies and downloads that they have made with the Mimobots on there website. They are really amazing movies!
Besides being amazing flash drives, my second favorite thing about Mimobots are that they come with a sound program that matches the Mimobot flash drive character you have and you download a program that comes with the Mimobot very easily onto your computer, so when you plug it into your computer or eject them it makes a sound as if the Mimobot is talking.

Like for example, when I plug in my Darth Vader, the sound of Darth Vader breathing or of the emperor saying "Rise Lord Vader" will play on my computer. Each flash drive Mimoco makes comes with a sound unique to the character. You can listen to a few examples here: MimoByte sound clips.

I miss hearing the sounds of my Mimobot. I haven't heard them since my computer died. I digress...

They just released a Star Wars Series 6 Yoda Mimobot and I'm about to sell my kidney to get one. I'm kidding. But I would kill to have one. He looks so amazing.

These Star Wars Mimobot flash drives are great for Star Wars fans of all ages. Well all ages 13 and up. They are not toys and are not intended for small children.

They are great for back to school and are currently having a back to school sale on their website and you get 20% off ANY MIMOBOT! http://www.mimoco.com

It ends Friday September 3rd, 2010 so hurry and get your Mimobots now! I'm sure you will love your Mimobots just as much as I love mine. I have my little Star Wars Mimobot Shrine on my desk and I'm sure it will be growing soon, hopefully for Christmas with a Yoda Mimobot.

Thank you for letting me share my love of Mimobots with you and thanks again for following my blog!
